Established in 2002. Located on the NSW Central Coast. Sessions on 2nd Saturday of the month February to December. 8.30am - 11.30am. The bushcare site is located directly behind Niagara Park Public School, adjacent to the cycleway/footpath which runs from the Niagara Park shopping centre towards Narara Railway station in the south. Part of Central Coast Council bushcare program.

The bushcare site is a narrow piece of remnant bushland bounded to the east by the Newcastle to Sydney railway line, to the north by Niagara Park Shopping Centre and to the west by Niagara Park Stadium and Niagara Park Public School.

There has been wonderful regrowth of rainforest species along the creekline with cabbage tree palms, bangalow palms, lily pily, tree ferns, sandpaper figs, native violets, native geranium and more.

Projects

Still a large number of natives to plant in our Autumn regrowth project. This area has only recently been opened up with primary weeding to remove the larger privets.

Due to the shady and wet nature of our site there is an abundance of tradescantia to deal with, especially along the creekline. Over the years we have raked and left the trad. to dry on rafts however it would not die. We have been using black plastic to form solarisation bundles to transform the trad. into compost for our plantings.

Tubestock insufficient winter rain

We have planted and regenerated an area which is hidden from the world by an edge of privet and lantana. This year we hope to remove the weedy edge and reveal our wonderful regenerated bushland.

Regular maintenance weeding of our site is promoting the spread of native groundcovers such as this geranium.
