The 68th General Assembly of the United Nations declared 2015 the International Year of Soils. People all around the world are thinking and acting on the importance of soils, and for this reason Green Day 2015 has this theme.

To help bring this to life, Green Day 2015 is holding a sculpture competition – asking participating schools to explore the importance of soils via sculpture. This year, all sculptures entered in the Seeing Soils Sculpture Competition will be exhibited at the Sculptures in the Garden exhibition held at Rosby. Classes can also win a cash prize of $400! You can find more information on the Sculptures in the Garden by visiting their website: http://www.sculpturesinthegarden.com.au

We are currently in the process of putting together an expert judging panel to pick the winner. If your son, daughter or grandchildren are attending Green Day, why not check-in with them and see how they’re entries are progressing!

Watershed Landcare is also happy to report that we have managed to secure a science education company, Fizzics Education to deliver our keynote presentation. Fizzics is a Sydney-based company that travels around the state, delivering fun, engaging and exciting science classes and presentations for primary aged students. You can learn more about Fizzics by visiting their website here: http://www.fizzicseducation.com.au/index.html

Watershed Landcare is always looking for volunteers to help with set-up and pack-down, and ensuring that everything runs smoothly on the day. This year Green day will be held on 10 September. If you have some spare time to help out on Wednesday 9 September or Thursday 10 September 2015 – we’d love to hear from you. Please contact Vivien Howard on 0488 224 025 if you’d like to participate or would appreciate more information.

This event is supported by Watershed Landcare through funding from the Australian Government's 25th Anniversary Landcare Grants.
