Have you ever wondered how the temperature of the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Chile can affect rainfall patterns in Mudgee? What do all those squiggles on a weather map mean?

Residents of the district will have an opportunity to learn more about our weather and climate at a workshop to be held in Mudgee next week.

The Weather and Climate Workshop, developed by the Central Tablelands Local Land Services in conjunction with the Australian Bureau of Meteorology (BOM), will be held on Thursday 26 February, at Club Mudgee (Soldiers Club) 99 Mortimer St, Mudgee.

Participants will gain an understanding of the terminology of weather and climate and learn about how the BoM make weather predictions and forecasts.

The major influences on the Australian climate, such as the El Nino - Southern Oscillation, will also be covered.

The data used in the workshops will be tailored to the Central Tablelands where possible.

Landholders will gain a better understanding of how to interpret what's in store for the climate outlook by utilising the BoM's website tools and products to enhance management decisions. Climate models and seasonal forecasting will also be explained.

Attendance is free with morning tea and lunch provided. The workshop will begin at 9.30 for morning tea for 10am start and will conclude by 3.30pm.
Places are strictly limited, RSVP by Friday 20 February to book your spot.
