Young District Landcare is based in the Young Shire in the south west slopes of NSW. It operates as an independent and voluntary group of producers, landholders and community members who share a common interest and regard for Landcare outcomes for the community, farm businesses and landscapes of the district.

Young District Landcare aims to provide educational and informative events for people in our community. Past events include our annual Wattle Walks, Fungi Workshop, Native Bird Forum, Orchid Walks, bird watching mornings, fruit tree pruning workshops and more.

We also have ongoing projects such as our Microbats of the Young Shire and Barb Busters Working Bees.

Projects

The project is designed to provide habitat for up to 15 species of microbat through the installation of roosting boxes, the provision of future habitat through tree and shrub planting, and also aims to increase community awareness.

Woodland birds are declining due to habitat loss and fragmentation, and many are listed as threatened. Young District Landcare formed the Bird Working Group in 2016 with the aim of improving community awareness about the plight of woodland birds, and also to provide an activity for like-minded individuals that have an interest in native fauna.
